Summer Review

An invitational exhibit curated by Maxine Farkas

Fiber is seductive. There are few boundaries that confine the fiber artist, there is little that is not fair game. Paper is fiber, wood is fiber, woven wire is fiber. Fiber is about both visual and physical texture. It draws artists from many disciplines to experiment and revel in opportunity.

This Summer Review offers work by quilt artists, painters and printmakers. Som eof the work comes in traditional quilt form, layers of fabrc and batting fastened together. Other works reinterpret the quilt 'sandwich.' Yet others put aside payers and offer pure texture.

The Gallery at King's Corner is one of the few in the nation to offer fiber as fine art. Being offered the opportunity to curate an invitational exhibit of this nature is a gift that few curators receive. My charge from Mary McRae was without qualifications or restrictions. Like many curators I have a list of artists who I respect and would love to introduce to new audiences. On the walls of the Gallery and in the pages of the catalog I offer you a sampling of work by artists I admire.
